Smart Paul Olena is a 1994 Red Roan AQHA Stallion. He is the very rare combination of a superstar athlete with a stellar pedigree and a golden mind to boot. And even after 9 years in the showpen, Paul is still marking huge scores in international competition. He has stayed sound, fresh, and willing.

Paul is sired by NRHA Hall of Fame Stallion, Smart Chic Olena, who is the only horse in AQHA history to win a World Championship in both Cutting and Reining. Smart Chic Olena is the sire of earners of over $7 Million in Reining, Cutting, and Working Cowhorse events.

Paul is a full brother to A Chic In Time, earner of over $300,000. A Chic In Time was the 2006 World's Richest Cowhorse Champion, the 2005 World's Greatest Horseman Champion, an NRHA Open Futurity Finalist, and the earner of over $100,000 in NCHA event.

Smart Paul Olena Background Information:
Year after year, Smart Paul Olena has been a force to be reckoned with in the showpen. During his 3 year old year, he was an Open Futurity Finalist with Doug Milholland. The duo also made the NRHA Open Derby finals, after which Paul was retired and pasture bred to a small group of mares.

 

Smart Paul Olena + Aaron Ralston 2005 Invitational Freestyle Champions

In 2003, Meg Griffith purchased Paul at the request of her then finance, Aaron Ralston. It wasn't log before Meg and Smart Paul Olena were winning major events, and at the 2003 AQHA World Show, they were 6th in Amateur Reining.

 

In 2004, both Meg and Aaron showed the dynamic stallion to a string of NRHA wins, including 2 NRHA Affiliate Championships. Two months later at the AQHA World Show, Meg rode Smart Paul Olena to the Reserve World Championship in Amateur Reining, while Aaron won a matching Reserve World Championship in Sr Reining.

 

2005 started of with a bang when Aaron and Smart Paul Olena won the USET Open Reining Championship Qualifier at the National Western Stock Show against the biggest and best names in the reining industry.

 

They also won the prestigious Invitational Freestyle at the National Western, when Aaron rode the stallion through a brilliant routine while bareback. At the 2005 USET Reining Championships at the Fiesta in the Park Show, Aaron and Smart Paul Olena won the Don Burt award.

Meg also continued to team up with Paul in NRHA Non Pro competition, winning numerous bronzes. Aaron won another NRHA Championship at the 2005 Mountain Affiliate finals.

 

That November at the AQHA World Show, Meg and Smart Paul Olena headed to OKC again, this time garnering the World Championship in Amateur Reining out of 70 entries.

 

In 2006, Smart Paul Olena again made history. With Aaron in the saddle, Paul was the Reserve Champion at the USET Reining Championships in Kentucky, scoring a huge 229.5 to tie with NRHA $2 Million rider, Tim McQuay.

 

This top finish earned them the honor of representing the United States Equestrian Team at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Germany. Also part of the team were top riders Tim McQuay, Dell Hendricks and Matt Mills.

 

When the WEG got underway in the summer of 2006, the team competition was first, and Smart Paul Olena and Aaron posted the highest score for Team USA when they marked a 223.5!

 

Ultimately, Team USA won the Gold Medal, besting Canada by 1 point. Then, in the individual competition, Aaron and Smart Paul Olena again thrilled the crowd when the marked a huge 227.5, earning another medal- this time Bronze.

 

In all, Smart Paul Olena has earned over $84,000. He has been bred to a very limited number of mares, and his offspring are riding great. Meg and Aaron are looking forward to showing them in the near future.
